Mirabilis

A woman appears to have fallen from the sky. Nova, the woman, arrives to a world where time and image do not align – an in-between reality where memories and expectations reverberate around her. Though invisible to others, her presence evokes blunt emotional confessions out of people, allowing them to experience fleeting, intimate moments of connection and an alternate reality.
MIRABILIS takes place in a contemporary city, where visible reality and another dimension of time flow organically into one another, and has a magical-realist approach – the everyday and the inexplicable coexist without explanation. Through shifts in color, light and time, it becomes palpable that reality encompasses more than what is directly visible. In that sense, the film is also an ode to the magic of life and to the intangible that lies beyond our ordinary perception.
Nova is experienced by the viewers in two ways. On the one hand, as a tangible, recognizable presence within the physical world. On the other hand, we experience the city from her perspective, in which her perception becomes distorted: images slow down, shift in color and fall out of focus. Nova moves at a different pace than the people around her — in slow motion and with heightened attention to natural elements such as trees, water and sunlight. In the story, the city is a boiling pot of sound, chaos and people; everyone and everything constantly in motion. This chaos and noise will contrast sharply with the moments of tender connection that Nova will share with passersby.
